LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Students at Newcomer Academy , a program for those who recently immigrated to the United States, turned their hallways into a world of culture.
You can hear it through the music and chanting through the school hallways.
Students at Jefferson County Public Schools’ Newcomer Academy are parading, celebrating their heritage in a tradition that’s become one highlight of the year.
“They were putting Sharpies on their faces today,” said Anne Miller, high school assistant principal. “I was like, ‘ladies you do know that’s going to stay there for a few days?’”
