CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating two separate homicides that happened early Saturday morning in different parts of the city.

University City shooting

Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call shortly after 2 a.m. in the 8800 block of Hollow Creek Circle in the University City area, police said .

After arriving, police found one person with gunshot wounds nearby. Medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

A second gunshot victim was located at a hospital and is in stable condition, according to CMPD.

CMPD's Homicide Unit detectives and Crime Scene Search units responded to process the scene and collect evidence.
