The Mumbai Crime Branch arrested a 45-year-old man from West Bengal, who allegedly threatened and demanded Rs 1 crore from Bollywood actor and comedian Kapil Sharma’s personal assistant (PA) by using the name of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

A senior police officer said the accused, Dilip Chaudhary, who hails from North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, threatened Sharma’s PA in a phone call a few days ago. The accused issued death threat to Sharma’s PA if the money he demanded was not paid. The accused works in a small firm, the officer said.

Sharma’s PA received several calls from the accused four-five days ago. Soon after, the Crime Branch began its investigation. A team was sent to West Bengal, the accused was arrested and brought to Mumbai on Saturday morning. He was produced in c
