BOSTON — In the ninth inning, Detroit Tigers right-handed reliever Tommy Kahnle gave up a walk-off triple to Ceddanne Rafaela , who blasted a changeup off the wall in center field and drove in the game-winning run from first base.

The Boston Red Sox stormed the field to celebrate.

Not only were the Tigers heartbroken by a 4-3 loss , but the players and coaches had to watch the Red Sox clinch a spot in the postseason Friday, Sept. 26, in the first of three games at Fenway Park. There are two games remaining for the Tigers to punch their ticket.

"We got to flush tonight," said Riley Greene , a two-time All-Star who is hitting .260 with 36 home runs and an .812 OPS in 156 games. "We got to show up tomorrow and win. That's what it comes down to. We got to win baseball games."
