The India Meteorological Department ( IMD ) on Saturday issued a ‘red alert’ warning indicating extremely heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Palghar districts of Maharashtra . These districts are expected to witness high level of rainfall on September 28 (Sunday)

“Extremely heavy rainfall is likely over Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Palghar districts with very intense spells in some areas. Coastal districts such as Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, along with the ghat regions of Nashik, are also expected to witness heavy showers,” an IMD official told the press.

The department updated its forecast earlier today, stating that compared to the coastal belt, northern and central parts of Maharashtra such as Marathwada and Vidarbha are likely to receive only low-intensity rainfall on Sunday.
