At least 10 persons, including children, are feared dead after Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor-turned-politician Vijay’s mega rally in Karur on Saturday evening descended into chaos due to severe overcrowding. A stampede-like situation was reported at the venue, sparking fears of possible casualties, according to PTI.

Ministers, top officials and police officers have rushed to Karur following the stampede. Taking stock of the situation, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin said, “The news coming from Karur is worrying.” Stalin further said that all the authorities are coordinating with each other to provide assistance to the attendees impacted in the stampede.

According to multiple reports, the death toll in the stampede is likely to rise.
