US President Donald Trump on Saturday said he will deploy U.S. troops to Portland, Oregon, to confront what he described as “domestic terrorists,” escalating his controversial use of federal forces in American cities.

In a post on Truth Social media, Trump said he had directed the Department of Defense to “provide all necessary Troops to protect war-ravaged Portland,” adding that he was authorizing “full force, if necessary.”

He claimed the move was needed to safeguard Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities, which he alleged were “under siege from Antifa and other domestic terrorists.”
