Employee, 65, awarded 26 months pay in wrongful dismissal case

Ibrahim Panchbhaya, immigrated from India to Canada in 1983.

Within a few months of arriving, in December of the same year, he began working at Clean Harbors – an environmental and industrial waste management services company.

As a laboratory manager, he oversaw two employees and was responsible for quality assurance, ISO certification and laboratory oversight. Panchbhaya also helped with hiring decisions, retained new employees and reported to the Assistant General Manager.

Panchbhaya earned $84,000, participated in the company’s pension plan and received health benefits. When the company shut down a facility in November 2023, he was terminated after 40 years of service. At the time, Panchbhaya was 65 years old.
