NEW DELHI: The presence of natural gas in the Andaman Sea holds great promise for the country's energy security. If harnessed, it can be used as fuel in industries and vehicles, and as cooking gas in Indian homes. Currently, LNG is being imported in large quantities from abroad.

It was Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri who made this gigantic announcement on Saturday through his social media page. The Union Minister said that the size and commercial viability of the natural gas deposit are being examined.
