Perth’s deaf community is gearing up to celebrate National Week of Deaf People with a vibrant event where hands will do the talking.
The morning tea, hosted by Deaf Connect at its Perth office next Saturday, is an opportunity for deaf, deafblind, and hard-of-hearing West Australians to come together in a space built just for them.
Deaf Connect chief executive Brett Casey said it was rare for deaf people to receive such an opportunity.
“Most spaces today are designed by and for hearing people,” he said. “Deaf people have had to create their own spaces to belong in a society that wasn’t built for them.”
The morning tea, which will run from 10.30 am, is a chance for the community to connect, socialise, and celebrate.
It’s also an open invitation to hearing allies and anyone curious about
