SALT LAKE CITY — In its annual campus safety report , the University of Utah has reported an abnormally high number of rape cases on campus over the last year.

In this year’s report, as required by federal law, the U says they had just under 150 rape cases on campus in 2024, which is nearly five times more than what they reported two years ago.

They say a big reason why the number is so high this year is that 110 of those cases came from a single survivor who endured a violent relationship for months with the same person. Both of those students have since graduated.

University of Utah Director of Communications Rebecca Walsh said the high numbers could also indicate that more survivors are coming forward.
