Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay expressed deep sorrow following a tragic stampede at his rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, which resulted in the deaths of at least 38 people, including women and children. In his first public statement, Vijay said, "My heart is shattered; I am writhing in unbearable, indescribable pain and sorrow that words cannot express." He extended his condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the recovery of those injured.

The chaos unfolded on Saturday evening when Vijay arrived six hours late to the event, leading to a surge of supporters rushing past barricades. Eyewitnesses reported that many attendees fainted in the crowd, prompting Vijay to briefly stop his speech to throw water bottles to help them. Despite his efforts, many were taken to hospitals, where several succumbed to their injuries.

The Tamil Nadu government has announced an inquiry into the incident, which will be led by Justice Aruna Jagadeesan. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also requested a report from the state government regarding the stampede's causes. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been in contact with Tamil Nadu officials to assess the situation.

In response to the tragedy, Chief Minister MK Stalin announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for the injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences, stating, "The unfortunate incident during a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones. Wishing strength to them in this difficult time. Praying for a swift recovery to all those injured."

As the community mourns, the focus now shifts to understanding the circumstances that led to this devastating event.
