As part of a weekend kickoff for the America 250, the Delco Downhill Derby took over Edgmont Street in Media Saturday.
The event was part of a birthday/anniversary celebration that saw the America 250 banners unveiled at the Delaware County Courthouse on Friday in conjunction with the recognition of the county’s 236th birthday.
Paul Hewes, director of the Delaware County Historical Society, who was hosting the derby, told the crowd he was hoping for a “Nice, fun, easy event … I don’t want any injuries, so God willing, we won’t have any.”
The eight participating cars were first judged on theme and execution.
Then, time trials were held. No motors were allowed on the vehicles.
They only moved through two pushes along the Edgmont Street route stretching from Fifth Street to State Street.
