Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has had a private audience with King Charles at Balmoral Castle in Scotland during his trip to the United Kingdom.
Mr Albanese and his fiancee, Jodie Haydon, flew from London to the Scottish Highlands for the private meeting with the monarch.
The prime minister presented King Charles with a framed photo of the royal couple’s October 2024 visit to Australia.
According to the prime minister’s office, the frame was “made from genuine Australian timber”.
After the audience, Mr Albanese shared a photo from Balmoral on social media with the caption: “An honour to meet with you today, Your Majesty.”
Asked ahead of his meeting about whether Australia might move towards becoming a republic, Mr Albanese said he had no plans to pursue a referendum.
