Saint Francis football coach Adam Sherman said he was on true freshman running back Azariah Wallace’s case all week leading up to Saturday’s game against Defiance College.

“He didn’t have a great week of practice,” Sherman said. “I was kind of hard on him all week…Credit to coach (Cam) Peterson, he was singing his praises all week, saying he’s going to be alright.”

When the Cougars' leading rusher, junior Drew Wheat, went down in the first half, Wallace was better than OK. He rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns in the second half and helped the Cougars fend off the Yellow Jackets in a 37-34 homecoming win at Bishop D'Arcy Stadium.
