A 26-year-old man from the Rideau Lakes area has been charged with attempted murder of a child following a police investigation into intimate partner violence and child abuse. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) announced the charges on Saturday after the man was arrested on Friday.
The investigation began around 9 a.m. on September 26, when officers from the Leeds County detachment of the OPP started looking into the allegations. The man was taken into custody shortly after the investigation commenced.
In addition to attempted murder, the man faces a total of 14 charges, including: - Sexual assault on a person under 16 causing bodily harm - Sexual interference - Intimidation - Two counts of forcible confinement - Two counts of assault - Two counts of assault with a weapon - Two counts of assault causing bodily harm by choking, suffocating, or strangling - Two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
The OPP have chosen not to release the man's name to protect the identity of the victims involved. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville at a later date.
Rideau Lakes is located over 100 kilometers southwest of Ottawa.
