SHAWANGUNK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- One person is dead following a plane crash in the town of Shawangunk in Ulster County on Saturday, according to New York State Police. The incident reportedly occurred just before 2:30 p.m. at the Kobelt/Walkill Airport.
A preliminary investigation reportedly found that the small, single-engine plane crashed while trying to take off and subsequently caught fire. The pilot, who was the only person on the aircraft, was found dead at the scene, according to authorities.
The investigation remains ongoing, State Police said. The Federal Aviation Administration has also reportedly been notified.
