A two-story residence caught fire Saturday in San Clemente.

The fire was reported shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of West Escalones, at El Camino Real, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

The fire started on the first floor and rapidly spread to the room above, the OCFA reported. Firefighters worked quickly to prevent flames from spreading to an adjacent structure.

Paramedics assessed one person’s injuries but the person declined to be taken to a hospital, fire officials said.

An unknown number of residents were displaced and the American Red Cross was summoned to help.

An investigation was underway to determine the cause of the fire.
