ERWIN, Tenn. (WJHL) — One year ago, devastation hit Unicoi County when Hurricane Helene swept through the region. Leaders said the community is now focusing on the brighter days ahead.
A prayer vigil for the one-year mark of Hurricane Helene was held to remember lives, homes and pieces of Unicoi County that were lost or destroyed. The Unicoi County Long-Term Recovery Group director, Suzy Cloyd, said the county's recovery process has come a long way.
"I think when you put a year between an episode, you, you don't really know how well you have recovered until you have flashbacks, stories that have been, you know, shown all week, listening to folks and how they survived and what their story was," Cloyd said.
