Fleury, per his wishes, played the third period of Saturday’s preseason game against the Columbus Blue Jackets at PPG Paints Arena. With a packed house cheering him on, Fleury stopped all eight of the shots he faced to secure a 4-1 win for the Penguins.

Fleury, 40, retired from the NHL after last season. This offseason, Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas invited the three-time Stanley Cup champion back to play one last home game in Pittsburgh. Fleury signed a camp tryout contract so he could play in Saturday’s exhibition, giving both the fans and Fleury a chance to say goodbye.
