SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WNCN) -- A North Carolina coastal town issued a warning about an active shooter on Saturday night.
The town of Southport in Brunswick County issued an alert on social media just before 9:55 p.m.
"There are reports of an active shooter in the Southport Yacht Basin," the town officials said in a short news release.
Town officials added that there was "an unknown number" of injuries
"Avoid the area and remain in your homes," town officials added.
The Southport Yacht Basin borders an area of the town along the Intracoastal Waterway with several bars and restaurants, including American Fish Company.
At 10:43 p.m., the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office released a short statement on social media about the matter.
