The emergency management director in Volusia County is advising would-be beachgoers to preoccupy themselves indoors if possible once conditions along the coast begin to deteriorate during Tropical Depression 9.
Clint Mecham, Volusia County Emergency Director, said he and his team are keeping a close eye on the county's coastline and barrier islands.
He said they're expecting that area to feel the most from the storm.
"Our closest point of approach is Monday around sunrise, give or take an hour," Mecham said, noting the storm is predicted to pass around 100 miles offshore.
"Monday through Tuesday is going to be extremely dangerous to be in the water, we do not recommend you enter the water on Monday as we get this close point of approach."
