Injured Brisbane midfielder Jarrod Berry felt compelled to follow in the footsteps of ruckman Oscar McInerney from last season and declare himself unavailable for the grand final, saying he couldn’t have forgiven himself if he’d made a selfish decision.
Berry watched Saturday’s premiership victory from the sidelines after dislocating his shoulder late in the home and away season, then again in the preliminary final.
Having see McInerney inspire the group with his positive attitude last year when he missed the grand final with the same injury, Berry said it was important to make the best decision for the team. While he trained on Thursday, Berry couldn’t overlook the example set by McInerney in 2024.
