Shadow foreign affairs minister Michaelia Cash has backed Andrew Hastie’s hardline stance on migration, framing it as part of “robust debate” within the Liberal Party.

The defence comes after the shadow home affairs minister, Mr Hastie, publicly pressured Opposition Leader Sussan Ley to act on immigration and net zero.

Ms Cash told Sky News Sunday Agenda that she welcomed the contest of ideas, insisting it was a sign of strength, not division.

“I think we all agree with Andrew Hastie and Sussan Ley when it comes to Labor’s failure on migration,” Ms Cash told Sky News Sunday Agenda.
