If Alabama had played Georgia a few weeks ago, the Crimson Tide might not have run the play.

The one where 6-foot-7, 366-pound left tackle Kadyn Proctor splits out wide and catches a pass. The Crimson Tide first introduced it during training camp.

“It was going really well,” Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said. “And then we had one that didn’t go well. So it got shelfed for a little bit.”

The play wasn’t officially scratched, though. Just tucked away for the right moment. Turns out, that was Saturday.

As football wisdom goes, there’s no better time to dust off a pass to your mammoth left tackle than against the No. 5 team in the country. So that’s what offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb did.
