The Karur rally tragedy has shaken Tamil Nadu and left the film fraternity in grief. Hours after a stampede at actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) rally claimed at least 39 lives, including 10 children, some of the biggest names in cinema, including Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Khushbu Sundar and others, expressed shock, sorrow, and anger.
What was meant to be a show of political strength turned into an unspeakable tragedy. Thousands had gathered under the sweltering sun for hours to catch a glimpse of the star-turned-politician, but the overcrowding and exhaustion proved fatal, forcing Vijay to cut short his address midway.
Kamal Haasan said the news left his “heart trembling” and appealed to the Tamil Nadu government to ensure medical care and relief for survivors
