Leader of the Opposition and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Sunday (September 28, 2025) blamed the State government for the loss of 39 lives in the Karur stampede at TVK president and actor Vijay’s public meeting on Saturday (September 27, 2025) evening.

After visiting the ICU ward at the Karur Government Hospital, where several of the injured are being treated, Mr. Palaniswami told reporters the tragedy was preventable. “We received information that there was a power shutdown during the event, and in that moment of confusion the congestion worsened. This led to the unfortunate incident,” he alleged.
