NEW YORK — The Noo Yoik choir really have to up their game. Shouts of “Amanda” (Balionis, TV presenter about whom there has been much unfounded gossip) and vile insults about his wife are not the best way to wind up Rory McIlroy, nor his playing partner Tommy Fleetwood for that matter.

The Bethpage crowd have not given McIlroy a moment’s peace all week. For the most part he is indifferent to it. “As long as they don’t shout when I’m stood over my ball they can say what they want,” he would remark later.
