SACRAMENTO, Calif. - California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara on Friday ordered a one-year moratorium on homeowners’ insurance cancellations and non-renewals for approximately 124,000 Californians living in the Sierra foothills.
The move by Commissioner Lara follows California Governor Gavin Newsom's emergency declaration on September 19 due to the TCU September Complex Fire.
"I am acting to protect Sierra foothill residents who have already been through a lot. Nobody should worry about losing their insurance coverage after going through a wildfire emergency," Lara said. He emphasized the need for this protection as efforts continue to restore insurance options across the state.
