**Carney Returns to Canada After U.K. Meetings and Rugby Final**
LONDON — Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to return to Ottawa today following a trip to London. During his visit, he met with the prime ministers of the U.K., Australia, Iceland, and Spain. Carney described these meetings as a "necessary" step toward reducing Canada’s economic dependence on the United States.
Although the trip did not result in new trade agreements or formal announcements, Carney emphasized the importance of face-to-face discussions. He stated that these interactions are "crucial" for advancing Canada’s economic and defense objectives.
The Conservative Party has criticized Carney for his frequent international trips, arguing that they do not yield tangible results. They contend that the prime minister should prioritize domestic issues, such as crime and affordability.
On Saturday morning, Carney engaged with infrastructure investors from Britain, Europe, Asia, and Australia. He expressed interest in exploring ways for Canada to attract more global capital.
In addition to his meetings, Carney attended the Women’s Rugby World Cup final on Saturday afternoon. Canada faced off against the top-seeded English team but lost the match 33-13.
Carney's trip highlights his administration's ongoing efforts to strengthen international relationships while addressing economic challenges at home.
