Actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Sunday said it would move the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court seeking an independent investigation into the Karur rally stampede that killed 40 people , including 10 children. The party alleged that the tragedy was not accidental but the result of a “conspiracy,” pointing to stone-pelting in the crowd and a police lathi-charge at the venue.

Meanwhile, Justice N Senthilkumar will hear an urgent petition at 4:30 pm today seeking to bar actor Vijay’s TVK from holding any public gatherings until the completion of the inquiry into the Karur stampede, sources said.
