STARKVILLE, Miss. (WLBT) - The Mississippi State Bulldogs fought hard on Saturday but fell just short in an overtime thriller against the Tennessee Volunteers, 41-34.

The Bulldogs were in search of their first SEC win in nearly two years and it came down to overtime, but Mississippi State was unable to find a touchdown on fourth down to push the game to a second overtime period.

Mississippi State’s running game led the way for the Bulldogs’ offense on Saturday, finishing with 197 rushing yards as a team and three touchdowns.

For Blake Shapen, he was efficient but had two big mistakes with an interception returned for a touchdown and a strip sack that was also returned for a touchdown. He finished 18-of-29 for 180 yards with a touchdown and those two turnovers.
