MISSOULA — The Montana football team jumped out to a 17-3 lead, putting Idaho in its largest deficit of the season, and answered every punch after that in a 41-30 win under the lights Saturday at Washington-Grizzly Stadium.

The fifth-ranked Grizzlies improved to 4-0 overall for the first time since 2022 and started Big Sky Conference play with a 1-0 record. It was the first time since 1980 they opened league play against the eighth-ranked Vandals, who dropped 2-3 overall and 0-1 in conference.

Montana receiver Michael Wortham scored two of the team's three touchdowns and flashed on field-flipping special teams plays. His 11-yard scoring run put the Griz up 17-3 in the second quarter and his 22-yard reception made it 24-6 in the third quarter.
