At Mathews and Merrywood elementary schools in Greenwood County School District 50, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” wasn’t just a question, it was an experience.
Career Day brought the world into classrooms, introducing students to the many paths their futures might take.
Carla Strong, school counselor at Merrywood, said Career Day on Sept. 26 has been a tradition for years.
Bringing in parents and community members, she explained, helps bridge the gap between classroom lessons and real-world opportunities.
That bridge came alive at Mathews when Greenwood County Sheriff Dennis Kelly arrived with two of his bloodhounds, Sam and Riley.
The hands-on visit, he said, not only excites students but also shows them the role law enforcement plays in the community.
