A second-half scoring surge proved to be too little, too late for the Colorado Mesa football as they lost their second straight game, falling 34-27 on the road at Chadron State on Saturday.

The Mavericks sputtered offensively throughout the game’s first 30 minutes, digging themselves a two-score hole, 17-7, to climb out of by halftime. CMU’s only scoring play in the half came on a lucky break on defense, when an errant snap evaded Eagles quarterback Aidan Thompson deep in his own territory. Maverick linebacker Noah Williams pounced on the football in the end zone for the defensive score.
