The NFL’s much-celebrated trip to Ireland was tainted by an off-the-field incident on Friday.
Steelers reserve quarterback Skylar Thompson was mugged and robbed in Dublin on Saturday, the night before Pittsburgh was scheduled to face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
NFL media reported that Thompson, who is on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, suffered minor undisclosed injuries from the incident. He made the historic trip despite the fact he can’t dress on Sunday.
Steelers Spokesman Burt Lauten issued a statement :
“We are aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin. We will have no further comment at this time as we are working with NFL security to gather more information regarding the incident.”
