RALEIGH — N.C. State football lost 23-21 to Virginia Tech in Week 5, falling in back-to-back ACC games.

The Wolfpack (3-2, 1-2 ACC) led late, but the Hokies (2-3, 1-0) used a strong rushing attack and pass rush to keep N.C. State off balance at Carter-Finley Stadium. By the end of the game, a "Let's go Hokies" chant could be heard throughout the stadium.

Facing a fourth-and-1 situation in the final minute, N.C. State couldn't convert, and Virginia Tech got in victory formation before celebrating in its ACC opener under interim coach Philip Montgomery. The Hokies racked up 229 rushing yards and logged five sacks.

N.C. State trailed 13-7 at halftime.
