In one of The Baltimore Sun’s news briefs on Sept. 25 — an item probably little noted by many — a federal judge lets President Donald Trump off the hook on some very questionable firings (“ Federal judge refuses to reinstate eight former inspectors general fired by Trump administration “).
Eight inspectors general, out of 17 terminated in January, sued Trump’s administration because of how they were fired. The case went to federal judge Ana Reyes, who agreed that Trump’s team probably violated federal law — but, she said, the firings “didn’t cause enough irreparable harm” (to what? to whom?) — so she let the terminations stand, adding that if the IGs were reinstated, all Trump would need to do is to notify Congress and let the watchdogs go once again after 30 days.
