Bill Essayli, the U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, joined California Politics 360 this week to respond to claims California's Democratic leaders have made to support their push to ban most officers from wearing masks during law enforcement operations.

Essayli sent a memo to federal law enforcement officials Friday, directing them to ignore the law when it takes effect in 2026.

On California Politics 360, Essayli signaled the federal government won't take any further action related to the new California law while stating he would not be surprised if Gov. Gavin Newsom sued the Trump administration over it.
