Matthew McConaughey (55) did a sit-down interview with People Magazine alongside his son Levi (17) and his mother Kay (93) to promote his new movie, in which Levi plays his son.

On how Levi got cast in the movie :

Matthew was talking about his next movie to his family. “I always pitch what story I'm doing, what the movie's about [to my family]. And I pitched it and it got to the part where my character had a son and Levi goes, "Well, how old's the son?"

Levi asked to read for it, and Matthew said yes. However, Matthew wanted to test Levi's resolve, and made him come back and ask him three more times before agreeing to help him film an audition tape.

Before sharing the tape with production, McConaughey asked the casting director to withhold sending Levi's last name as a test of merit.
