A senior Labour MSP has told wannabe party leader Andy Burnham to “shut up” amid speculation he plans to launch a bid to topple Keir Starmer. ‌

Michael Marra said people who are talking about leadership challenges are “neglecting” to do their job. ‌

Labour conference has been dominated by tension between the Prime Minister and Burnham, the mayor for greater Manchester. ‌

Burnham has not ruled out trying to replace Starmer and has aimed barbs in his direction.

He said today there is a “climate of fear” preventing a proper debate in Labour and hit out at those calling for “simplistic statements of loyalty” to Starmer.
