Rafael Devers will do something on Sunday that hasn’t been done in MLB since 2008.
The Giants designated hitter will play in his 163rd MLB game when San Francisco hosts the Colorado Rockies in the 2025 season finale. He’ll become the first Giants player to play 163 games since José Pagán played 164 in 1962.
The last time this happened in MLB was when Twins first baseman Justin Morneau played in Minnesota’s tiebreaker against the Chicago White Sox in 2008 to determine the winner of the American League Central.
A regular season consists of 162 games, but Devers played in 73 games for the Boston Red Sox before he was traded to the Giants in June. Sunday will mark Game 90 with San Francisco.
Playing the full 162 games is an accomplishment by itself, but perhaps a bit more impressive
