Mayor Eric Adams said Sunday he will not seek a second term as the leader of New York City, ending his re-election bid.

In a video posted to X, Adams cited financial hurdles and persistent negative press as reasons why he’s ending his ffort.

The campaign had stalled in recent weeks after Adams was repeatedly denied public matching funds and consistently polled last in the four-way race, according to amNY.

“Despite all we’ve achieved, I cannot continue my re-election campaign,” he said, seated on the Gracie Mansion steps beside a portrait of his late mother.
