Multiple emergency crews are at the scene of a horrific crash on Indian Ocean Drive on Saturday afternoon.

Early reports indicate that two cars were involved in a head-on crash near Wedge Island.

Fire crews were called to assist after 2.50pm after receiving reports of multiple people trapped in their vehicles.

Images from the 7News helicopter show that an Izuzu utility and hatchback were damaged in the accident.

Indian Ocean Drive remains closed from Lancelin to Cervantes and emergency crews remain at the scene.
