Firefighters from the Riverside Fire Department and Cal Fire battled a brush fire in the Santa Ana River bottom in Riverside Sunday.

The quarter-acre fire was reported just before 8:30 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Jurupa Avenue and Tyler Street, where firefighters found a working fire with light and medium fuels moving at a slow rate of spread.

The city fire department initiated a direct fire attack for perimeter control, but transferred the overhaul and investigation to Cal Fire upon their arrival.

The fire was controlled by 9 a.m.

No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
