Tropical Storm Imelda is located near latitude 24.2 North, longitude 77.3 West. It is on a more eastward track, keeping it farther away from our coast as it moves north over the next couple of days. It is heading towards the Bahamas.
Imelda is moving toward the north near 9 mph (15 km/h), and it is expected to increase in speed during the next 24 hours.
By Tuesday, Imelda is expected to turn sharply to the east-northeast. Its current maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. However, with strengthening, it will likely become a category one hurricane Monday or Tuesday.
Locally, tropical storm winds are possible with one to two inches of rain accumulation as the storm progresses closer to Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. Some coastal erosion is possible.
