The families of two officers brutally murdered by Australia's most wanted man will attend a memorial service honouring police who went to work but never came home.

Victorian police officers Neal Thompson and Vadim de Waart-Hottart were gunned down in the small town of Porepunkah on August 26 while they were attempting to carry out a search warrant.
Leading Senior Constable Thompson, a Victoria Police veteran of 38 years, was due to retire from the force a week after he died.
Hundreds of their colleagues are still involved in the search for their alleged killer, Dezi Freeman, who is accused of firing the weapon.
