Indianapolis Colts speedster receiver Adonai Mitchell made one of the plays of the week on Sunday. He then ruined his entire effort, roughly less than five seconds later.
Early in the third quarter, the playmaker made an awesome catch with a Los Angeles Rams defender draped all over him. He turned it into what should've been a 75-yard touchdown with his speed. The only problem? While prematurely celebrating, Mitchell flipped the ball just before reaching the goal line. Those of you familiar with the infamous football exploits of DeSean Jackson will know that the NFL considers this sort of play a fumble.
Instead of an electric 75-yard, catch-and-run touchdown, it became a Colts touchback and turnover instead.
I have just one question: How are NFL skill players STILL making this mistake in 2025?
Man, I know the Rule of Cool should be undefeated, but this is really such a basic principle of the sport. Run the ball clearly across the goal line, then have fun celebrating. It shouldn't be that hard to remember even when you're excited. Mitchell and the Colts have to really hope this sequence doesn't come back to bite them against one of the NFL's best teams.
