Mets first baseman Pete Alonso said after the Mets' season-ending 4-0 loss to the Marlins on Sunday that he will opt out of his contract and re-enter free agency.

After protracted negotiations last winter, Alonso, 30, signed a two-year, $54 million deal to return to the Mets with a player opt-out after this season.

Alonso finished the season, in which he became the Mets' all-time home run leader , with a .272/.347/.524 slash line with 38 homers and a team-leading 126 RBIs. He made his fourth consecutive All-Star team.
