MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) — We rely on first responders in times of crisis, and sometimes they go above the call of duty without getting the recognition they deserve.

However, on Sunday, a North Alabama YMCA went out of its way to make sure these heroes and their families know they are appreciated.

The Heart of the Valley YMCA hosted its first annual First Responders Day event to say a big 'Thank you.'

"These jobs are tough, and we wanted to make sure they knew that we support those families," said Rob Gray. He is the Heart of the Valley YMCA CEO and President.

Gray said first responders, along with their families, got to enjoy the pool, along with free food and live music.

"We've probably had 50 to 60 families out today, so it's been really neat to see them connecting and doing things tog
